New beginnings & the acceleration of digitalization

Over the last few months everyone’s been talking about Covid-19 and what potential changes it will bring to our industry. With so many unknowns and uncertainties, it’s a good time to pause and reflect. Normally, we’re plowing forward with life – juggling all the moving pieces from trying to get the kids to school, to keeping everyone’s schedules organized and making time for our jobs. It’s a never-ending cycle of chaos. With the pandemic, all our daily norms instantly came to a screeching halt.

While some are starting to get back into their routines, there’s one clear aspect of life that is re-emerging differently – digital is more important now than ever. Regardless of where you live in the world or what industry you’re in, your life has in some way centered around digital over these last few months. It’s how we’ve shopped, stayed connected to friends and family, and done our jobs. The pandemic has accelerated the digitalization of everything.

Three years ago, we had the idea to digitalize part of the supply chain for medical device design engineers. Chamfr was about giving engineers an edge in their product development efforts by providing easier access to components in the early stages of product development. Having the ability to transact digitally across time zones and geographies and ship product to your doorstep with a click of a button, is now more important than ever; and we remain steadfast in our mission.

For those not as familiar with us, Chamfr is committed to:

  • Improving the efficiency with which everyone can do product development
  • Getting new technologies and materials into engineers’ hands faster
  • Connecting buyers and sellers, matching supply and demand
  • Helping streamline the workflow for everyone involved in the process

These traits are important to all industries; but especially healthcare so that we can:

  • Enable faster innovation
  • Be part of driving down the costs
  • Increase access for all

People’s lives are depending on all of us to help innovate our health care system. And, although it starts with the patient and ends with the patient, there are a million ways to innovate at every step throughout the supply chain. Every device starts with a bill of materials (BOM) and every BOM starts with a component. Ensuring we are constantly pursuing the most efficient workflows and pushing the boundaries of people and technologies outside of our comfort zones, is all part of ensuring we don’t settle for the status quo.  But instead, become forward thinking, adapt to new ways, and become part of finding better solutions for every part of the healthcare system.

As moms, we often think about our kids and their future. It’s a big part of what drives our commitment, now more than ever, to leaving the world a little bit better. We need to challenge ourselves every day to not be ok with the status quo. We need to be committed to pushing each other to advance our industry – even if it’s in a small corner of something really big. Because as we all know, “success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.” (Robert Collier)

Advancing digitalization for supply chains is our way of ensuring we push the boundaries of an industry ripe for innovation at all levels, with arguably one of the potentially biggest paybacks for humanity, even if it’s just from our little corner of this world.

Thank you to all of you who innovate daily – from the component side to the device side. We hope that our unwavering passion for digital positively impacts your novel ideas.
