Alta Biomed, a Nidus Biomedical incubated company

Pioneers at the Forefont of Surface Coated Innovation
Alta Biomed has a 20+ year legacy in developing next-generation coatings for medical device implants. We aim to be an expert partner to medical device OEM’s looking for coating technologies to enhance biocompatibility and provide anti-inflammatory, thromboresistance and healing properties. On-site equipment availability is focused on the core competencies of polymer synthesis, polymer coating, and analysis of surface chemistry. Alta’s parent company, Nidus Biomedical, is an innovation hub focused on incubating breakthrough ideas into medtech startup companies. Nidus leads programs from ideation through clinical success with continuous patient-centric focus.
Areas of Expertise:
- Medical device and implant coating process development
- Hemocompatibility analysis – human blood flow loop testing
- Pre-clinical and clinical expertise with novel coatings
- Flexible manufacturing options in Lab or Class 7 cleanroom environments
Powerful Passivation & Pro-Healing Technology
Alta’s revolutionary drug-free polymer, Polyzene-F (PzF), is imparted with the following unique properties:
- Anti-thrombogenic
- Anti-inflammatory
- Rapid & complete healing
PzF is a nano-thin biomimetic surface coating that acts as a barrier between the device, intimal surface and circulating elements in the blood. The coating can be applied on vascular implants, structural heart devices, LVADs, LAAs, PICCs, central venous ports, hydrocephalus shunts, foleys, etc. and is compatible with metal, polymer and textile materials. Alta Biomed has successfully commercialized and sold its PzF coated drug-loadable microsphere and embolic bead product lines for treating arteriovenous malformations and hypervascular tumors to Boston Scientific in 2015. Additionally, Alta Biomed had commercialized the COBRA PzF NanoCoated Coronary Stent (NCS), a new category of stent designed to safely and effectively treat patients who may benefit from 1-month of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT).
